Install Instructions
Tools Needed :
Socket Set, Allen Key Set, Gasket Scraper, Torque wrench, Small magnet. Eye protection, Jack, Jack stands, Wheel Chock, Oil Drain Pan, Brake Cleaner .
Step 1 :
Open box , Check to verify you have all of the hardware/ drain plug(s)
If you are missing anything please call Customer Service @ (855) 278-3299 immediately.
Step 2:
Put on your eye protection ! Chock the Wheels on the opposite end of the vehicle that you are working on. Jack up the end of the vehicle you will be working on. Set Jack stands securely under the axle. Place oil drain under the differential.
Step 3:
Use socket set or Allen keys to remove bolts holding differential cover in place other than a couple bolts you will want to keep somewhat loose to keep cover from dropping off. In some cases you may need to pry the diff cover away from the axle . Let the axle drain of all diff fluid.
Step 4:
Once oil is completely drained remove diff existing diff cover, spray inside of the differential with brake fluid and inspect for any metal shaving. Run a magnet through the bottom and oil galley of the differential if possible to collect any shavings.
Step 5:
Use gasket scraper and scrape the mounting flange of the axle housing to remove any leftover gasket or RTV sealant to ensure the surface is clean and free of debris.
Step 6.
(Only necessary if using RTV sealant. If using a Lube Locker gasket, skip to Step 7)
Spread RTV sealant on diff cover evenly ensuring you get around all of the bolt holes and let it set up for a few minutes setup times will vary with temperature, and humidity .
Step 7.
Slip a bolt through the face of the cover towards the back side. This will help you line up Gasket/ Diff cover when installing onto the axle housing .
Step 8:
Install cover onto the axle using a 5/16" Allen key. Secure all of the bolts to the cover. Make sure to tighten in a star sequence to ensure it goes on evenly snug to 20-30ftlbs (specs vary depending on your axle).
Step 9:
Use a 3/8" Allen wrench to remove fill plug, and fill diffs with appropriate amount of fluid for your axle and reinstall fill plug.
Step10:
Lower vehicle off of the Jack stands and remove wheel chocks. Hop in and go wheeling and test the Artec Hardcore diff covers out!
